International Software and Intelligent Systems Cluster

Galette de silicium

The aim of the international PILSI cluster is to attract the best talent to Grenoble (researchers and students alike), to favour the arrival of new industrial partners, to promote innovation and to place a central emphasis on in-depth research based on partnerships between the industrial and academic sectors.

Research into intelligent systems and applications plays a crucial part in meeting the key challenges faced by society now and in the future with regard to health, energy and the information society. Grenoble has real assets in the field of intelligent software and systems. Indeed, it is one of the only areas in which leading research laboratories operate side by side with industry in the fields of micro-nanotechnology and information and communications technology. This specificity has allowed Grenoble to strengthen its position as the world leader in intelligent miniaturized solutions.
The cluster’s strategy is to gather resources and skills to create a critical mass of talent (1,900 teacher-researchers, researchers and doctoral students), increase synergies and enhance Grenoble’s visibility around the world. PILSI will also boost cooperation between local players involved in Grenoble’s Carnot Institute for Intelligent Software and Systems and the Minalogic competitive cluster, to take further steps towards integrative research.
On the training front, the PILSI cluster plans to set up an international mathematics and information technology programme that will attract the very best doctoral students. In addition, to provide IT training to a higher number of individuals and cater for a growing workforce, the project plans to expand the existing training facilities. Furthermore, as part of the Campus Plan, PILSI is one of eight innovation clusters set up jointly by Grenoble’s universities and research bodies. Strongly backed by the Université Joseph Fourier , PILSI has taken up residence on the university campus, the so-called Eastern campus, close to the establishment’s IT department.
