Grenoble-Isère—located in the Rhône-Alpes region, home to France’s second-largest regional economy after Greater Paris/Ile-de-France—is a microcosm of the country’s powerful, diversified industrial base. Hemmed in by mountains and rivers, Grenoble-Isère does not let geographical limitations hinder its growth. The area continues to attract investment in industry, even in sluggish economic times. But is Grenoble-Isère’s stellar performance a mere coincidence, or is it the result of a carefully planned and executed economic development strategy?
AEPI is a sponsor of ISS Europe 2012, which takes place in Munich, Febuary 26-28th.
The SEMI Industry Strategy Symposium (ISS) is the high-level annual meeting of the European semiconductor industry’s leading decision-makers. The event attracts top executives from major semiconductor corporations and representatives of smaller semiconductor equipment manufacturers.
ISS focuses both on strategy and technology. Participants come together to explore how to best position the unique added value of Europe’s semiconductor industry on the global market. The conference is rich with insights into markets and applications, with speakers proffering their unique conceptions of the economic and industrial policies that will shape the future of the industry.
Imagine a place where your business can get new innovations to market in record time. Grenoble-Isère, in the heart of the French Alps, offers a collaborative innovation ecosystem designed to help you do just that.
Atrenta Inc. is a technology software company with sales and support offices worldwide. Atrenta’s products help to design the advanced semiconductors, called a system on a chip (SoC) devices, found in today’s consumer products such as smart phones and tablets. The company launched its French R&D center at the MINATEC Innovation Campus in Grenoble in partnership with CEA/Leti in mid-March 2011. The initial focus of the facility is the development of new power reduction technology for SoCs.
With every new generation of advanced consumer products, more functionality and performance is delivered with an expectation of longer battery life as well. This demand has put extreme pressure on power reduction techniques for the SoCs used in these products. Atrenta has been delivering power reduction technology to its customers worldwide for several years through its popular SpyGlass® product family. The new research being performed at the Grenoble R&D center will significantly advance the power reduction capabilities of SpyGlass, allowing more efficient and lower power designs to be created for next generation consumer products. The technology will help to develop new markets and new applications.
On December 6th, organized by the Office of Science & Technology of the Embassy of France in the United States (OST), the French American Innovation Day (FAID) is designed to emphasize a specific topic that is significant to science, therapeutics and innovation.
For the 2011 edition, the event is co-sponsored by GIANT Innovation Campus (France) and the Pioneer Valley Life Sciences Institute (PVLSI, USA). Entitled « Science and Innovation: The Challenges of Translational Breakthroughs », the 2011 FAID will give the opportunity to enlighten Innovation for health and new technologies in 3 appealing sessions.
Session 1 "Deciphering complexity and diversity of life"
Session 2 "Key competencies for innovation"

Cost savings—in the form of lower energy bills—have generally come in ahead of environmental concerns as the main motivating factor for the development of green IT. That is, until now. Today, both IT developers and users are placing environmental concerns at the center of their IT development. And the benefits touch an increasingly wider community beyond IT professionals. It comes as no surprise that some of the latest advances in Green IT are made right here in Grenoble-Isère.
Under the French government’s economic stimulus package (“Invest in the Future”), six technology research institutes will be created to pool existing public and private research facilities and support them with new resources. These multi-disciplinary institutes will focus on developing marketable technologies. The international selection jury gave top marks to Grenoble’s proposal for a nanoelectronics institute, confirming the city’s leading position in this burgeoning field. The new institute will help Grenoble reach its goal of becoming one of the world’s top three hubs for micro and nanotechnology.
Bull is not just Europe’s leading provider of critical IT systems; the company also designed Europe’s fastest supercomputer, capable of performing a quadrillion calculations per second. Bull’s Grenoble-based R&D center has its sights set on boosting the energy-efficiency of data centers—a crucial element of today’s increasingly connected digital world.
