The STMicroelectronics campus in Crolles, near Grenoble, is one of the largest industrial investments France has seen in the past two decades. Built in 1992, the campus today employs nearly 4,000 people. In 2007, local governments tasked Economist Brieuc Bougnoux to assess the campus’ economic impact.

Isère’s government agencies have been supporting economic growth for the past two decades. More than any other French department, Isère has backed its support with funding, in particular for R&D.

Part three: Eric Lépine, Caterpillar France Managing Director

Caterpillar, the world’s largest manufacturer of construction and earth-moving equipment, has been operating in Isère since 1961. The company today counts 2,450 local employees. Caterpillar recently celebrated its 50th anniversary in Isère and is looking forward to a bright future. The company’s goal? To be the best on all of its markets, from Europe to the Middle East.
